Adoption Stories

Meatball and Angel

Meatball and Angel are two very lucky ducks!

Meatball came from a colony of feral cats in New Augusta, MS. He was completely spicy upon arrival, and it took three months of work for him to even allow me to touch him. But he always loved other cats.

Angel was just a small baby when he was thrown from the window of a moving vehicle. He came to us at 4 weeks old with a scuffed up face and a botfly in his head. He blended in with another litter of kittens effortlessly, but unfortunately, they were all adopted without him. Thankfully, he was able to befriend Meatball, who was older and wiser than he. Meatball raised Angel up like his own annoying little brother.

Angel went 7 long months without being chosen for adoption. Then, a real angel came to him! His new mom, Sydnee! Angel was finally adopted into an amazing family of his own after waiting a long time. Meatball was sad to see him go, but happy that he got his forever.

But Sydnee couldn't stand seeing Meatball left behind. So after a year and a half in our care, Meatball was adopted, too! With his annoying little brother, Angel. Now the two of them live the happy, fat housecat life with their awesome mom and her boyfriend. They are inseparable now and always!

Nibbles, Nora, and Neddie

Nibbles, Nora, and Neddie were born on the streets in Grand Bay, AL. Their rescuer couldn't find a local rescue to take them in, so we offered to foster them. They came to us with severe eye infections, hookworms, and ringworm. They were unsocialized, but with a little food, they warmed up quick! Ringworm was the biggest battle they had to face, and it did not go away easily or quickly. Neddie even lost hair during the process, which eventually grew back into a stunning silver color.

Thankfully, they found a wonderful new mom named Jennifer, who took in ALL THREE beautiful kittens. They now get to live out the rest of their lives together and loved to the fullest.

Sugar

Sugar was found abandoned at a shooting range in Perry County. She was a senior girl who likely outlived her use to whoever owned her before, as her teets indicated she had several litters in the past.

Unfortunately, Sugar wasn't able to gain any interest locally. She went months without any one inquiry about her or asking to meet her. However, Sugar thankfully tested heartworm negative, which gave her the opportunity to be transported. With the help of For Pet's Sake of Long Beach, we were able to find her a home with the perfect new momma.

Now, Sugar is living her best life and being treated like a princess by her mom, Kim Sharp! She still goes on adventures and travels with her new family. She has fit in perfectly and proven that even old dogs still have a lot of life and love to give.

Shelly

Shelly was picked up by a Good Samaritan that found her lying lifeless on the side of the road. It was immediately clear that she has been severely injured, likely from being struck by a vehicle, and she was unable to walk. In addition to a broken pelvis, she suffered from open and horribly infected wounds on her thighs and stomach.

It took a great deal of time, love, and medicine to get Shelly back to her former glory. Walking was such a hardship for her at first, but with each day, she took bigger, more confident steps. Her amazing foster mom, Lori Howell, saved her life by taking her home and teaching her how to be a normal dog again. Once in a loving home, with a family, she made great strides in her recovery.

Shelly was spotted on Petfinder by a lovely family in Connecticut that was more than willing to give her a chance. They were aware of her needs and deficits, as well as her history, and were not scared away! Using the amazing services Red Fern Ranch provides, we were able to get Shelly to Connecticut, where she got to meet her amazing new family. Now, she is living the high life she always deserved with a little brother, a family of her own, and a warm fireplace to nap by.
